How to Remove Stickers from a Camper

Old stickers and decals can make a camper look worn out fast. Maybe the sticker is cracked, faded, peeling, or just not your style anymore. The good news is that most stickers can be removed at home with a little time and care.

At All Campers in St. Cloud, MN, we see this often on RVs, campers, and travel trailers. The key is to go slow so you do not damage the paint, siding, or finish.

What You Will Need

Before you start, gather a few basic items:
Do not use a metal razor blade on your camper siding. It can scratch the surface and cause more damage than the sticker itself.

What You Need

You do not need much to clean your RV fresh water system.
You will need:
Do not use scented bleach. Do not use splash-less bleach. Do not mix bleach with any other cleaner.

Step 1: Wash the Area First

Start by washing the sticker and the area around it with warm soapy water. This removes dirt, dust, and grit that could scratch the camper while you work.
Dry the area with a clean cloth before moving to the next step.

Step 2: Warm Up the Sticker

Use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the sticker. Heat softens the glue and makes the sticker easier to peel off.
Hold the heat source a few inches away from the surface. Move it back and forth slowly. Do not hold it in one spot too long, because too much heat can damage the finish.
A hair dryer is safer for most people. A heat gun works faster, but it can get very hot.

Step 3: Start Peeling from One Corner

Once the sticker is warm, use your fingernail, a plastic scraper, or an old credit card to lift one corner.
Peel the sticker back slowly. Try to pull it at a low angle instead of straight out. This helps reduce tearing and keeps more glue attached to the sticker instead of the camper.
If the sticker starts to rip, warm it again and keep going little by little.

Step 4: Remove the Sticky Glue Left Behind

After the sticker is off, you may still have sticky glue on the camper. Spray or dab a small amount of adhesive remover onto a soft cloth and rub the area gently.
Always test the remover on a small hidden spot first. Some cleaners may be too strong for certain camper finishes.
You can also try rubbing alcohol for lighter glue residue.

Step 5: Wash the Area Again

Once the glue is gone, wash the area again with warm soapy water. This helps remove any leftover cleaner.
Dry the area well with a clean towel.

Step 6: Wax or Polish the Spot

The spot where the sticker was may look different from the rest of the camper. This happens because the area under the sticker was protected from sun and weather.
A light wax or polish can help bring back some shine and protect the surface.

What If the Sticker Is Old and Cracked?

Older camper stickers can be harder to remove. They may come off in tiny pieces instead of one big sheet. In that case, be patient and keep using heat.
Do not rush the job. Pulling too hard or scraping too much can leave scratches or damage the siding.

Can You Remove Camper Decals the Same Way?

Yes, many camper decals can be removed the same way, but large decals take more time. Some decals have been on the camper for years and may leave behind faded spots or “ghosting.”
Ghosting means you can still see where the decal used to be because the sun faded the rest of the camper around it.
If you are dealing with large decals, old graphics, or paint damage, it may be best to have a camper repair shop look at it.
